Scientists from CABI’s 48 Member Countries are being urged to sign up for free science communication training for researchers. The training is designed to help them gain the confidence and skills to communication their findings to policymakers and the public.

The 60-minute SciDev.Net training is part of a series offered by Script.

Open to researchers in both the natural and social sciences

It is open to researchers in both the natural and social sciences, working in or coming from CABI Member Countries, who have findings to share.

You can sign up to the curtain raiser to the training series ‘How researchers can boost their career through science communication’ here. The session will take place online on Wednesday, 16 October 2024, at 11am GMT.

Other training topics in the series, which runs from 21 to 25 October 2024, include practical ways to simplify scientific information without compromising its meaning; how to make research findings interesting to the media, policymakers and the public; communicating numbers and statistics clearly to the media, policymakers and the public as well as communicating research on social media.

Knowledge that can empower people and help protect the planet

Dr Charles Wendo, Training Coordinator for SciDev.Net, said, “The training is part of CABI’s efforts to support member countries to share agricultural and environmental knowledge that can empower people and help protect the planet. Training is one of the ways CABI provides benefits to Member Countries.

“Researchers who participate in this training and use the skills to communicate their findings will be in a better position to influence policy, contribute to the development of their communities, enhance their public visibility, increase citations of their publications by other researchers and enhance their likelihood of being found by potential partners.

“Their countries and communities will benefit from increased opportunities to make evidence-based policies and decisions.”
