8 January 2015 – Stringent criteria for weed biocontrol agents may amount to missed opportunities for success in the United States.
A new article by CABI Switzerland scientists is already picking up headlines in the United States following its recent publication in the journal Invasive Plant Science and Management. In the article, CABI scientists examine five successful cases of weed biological control agents released in the United States in past years, and contends that under todays more stringent guidelines, these safe and effective weed control measures would not be allowed.
To continue to make sustainable weed control a reality, policies should be supported which call for comprehensive investigation of both the risks and benefits of potential biological control agents at the habitat-level. Read full press release from Allen press and journal article.
