I have worked at CABI since 2016. My experience includes collecting and identifying various insect pests and their natural enemies associated with different vegetables and fruits. I also have expertise in rearing different insects species, the control and elimination of agricultural, structural and forest pests by developing new and improved pesticides and cultural and biological methods including use of natural enemies of pests. I have also studied the distribution of insects, their habitat and recommended methods to prevent importation and spread of injurious species.
CABI’s centre in Pakistan coordinates our activities in Central and Western Asia. Small-scale farming here is widespread, employing a large percentage of the population in many areas. Agriculture contributes heavily towards the region’s economy and its development.
Tackling agricultural pests in Pakistan in a safe and sustainable way will save crop losses and benefit Pakistan’s exports. We are strengthening the capacity of Pakistan’s systems to implement biocontrol programmes for agricultural pests that cause huge problems. We will also lessen the impact of post-harvest pests and aflatoxins, and improve the capacity of plant health regulators to certify exports of agricultural commodities.
