I joined CABI in April 2014 as a Project Manager – Mobile. I am involved in managing ICT enabled projects which involves planning, monitoring and control of assigned projects, with a particular emphasis on their efficient and effective technical delivery to match the business and user needs. I am also associated with major telecom operators, offering mobile ready digital content covering all the knowledge domains for major crops.
I am currently working on an innovative concept that enables farmers to receive personalised agricultural advice not only based on localised information but also on visible crop characteristics derived from a stream of farmers own smartphone pictures.
Prior joining CABI I provided solutions on telecom domains to several operators in Africa.
Many farmers in the northern Indian states of Haryana and Punjab still rely on inefficient agricultural practices that are ill adapted to climate change. Data can help them. Customised advice, based on localised weather and soil data, pests and diseases, as well as input availability, can improve management practices, productivity and profitability. In this project, farmers will provide images taken from their smartphones to strengthen this advice and help farmers make timely decisions.
