This short, self-led course provides basic preparation techniques for postgraduates working in fungal research and scientific professionals looking to culture fungi. Participants will enhance their skills in obtaining pure cultures and preparing these for identification.

What you will learn about:
• Recognise symptoms of fungal disease on plants
• Select appropriate methods for isolating and culturing fungi
• How to avoid contaminants and obtain pure culture
• Apply best practice methods for growth and sporulation of fungi
• Examine details of spore development using slide culture technique
• Successfully produce single spore isolates
• Determine key features under the microscope by preparing good-quality slide mounts
