About
I have worked for CABI for 24 years. My professional experience includes project and programme development and implementation on capacity building in integrated crop management (ICM) and integrated pest management (IPM) for high-value crops through participatory approaches. I have also worked on IPM protocol development using augmentative and conservation of biological control options. In addition, I have facilitated and developed the ICM/IPM curricula for farmers and agriculture professionals and supported them with training activities for the management of vegetables, fruits and field crops.
In my role as Program Implementation Coordinator for Development, Communication and Extension (DCE), I am responsible for managing and building constructive relationships with the governments and other actors and stakeholders in the region in order to develop strategies to improve DCE performance. While planning in DCE, I communicate our strategy to national and international stakeholders. I also act as our focal point on assigned focus area, provide input to project development, and coordinate and consolidate inputs from projects and programmes within Asia.
Some of my other tasks include exploring and identifying DCE business development opportunities, as well as seeking grant funding and financial support for DCE programmes. I also participate on behalf of CABI in DCE-related conferences and forums.
CABI centre: Pakistan
CABI’s centre in Pakistan coordinates our activities in Central and Western Asia. Small-scale farming here is widespread, employing a large percentage of the population in many areas. Agriculture contributes heavily towards the region’s economy and its development.

Enhancing technical capacity for monitoring and managing fall armyworm in Bangladesh
Fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, is an incredibly highly invasive pest that feeds on over 80 plant species. Favouring maize and wheat, this caterpillar devastates crops and consequently affects the food security of smallholder farmers and the country. In Bangladesh, maize is the second most important crop which is grown on over 500,000 hectares. With the FAW’s ability to spread quickly, if not managed early, it can damage up to 80% of crops. In this project, CABI provided essential support in increasing the resilience of livelihoods in Bangladesh against the threats and crises caused by the FAW invasion in the country.
