This paper on taxonomy and agriculture in developing countries is based on an unpublished report intended to identify strategic and funder entry points for taxonomy in support of agriculture, particularly in relation to a possible Global Taxonomy Partnership Fund (GTPF) currently being considered, and the activities of BioNET INTERNATIONAL (BioNET).

In this paper, agriculture refers primarily to farming and forestry, with an emphasis on food security, and taxonomy includes taxonomic and reference collections and other support needed for taxonomists, applications of taxonomy (identifications, identification guides, checklists, etc.), taxonomic research and networking of taxonomists.
