About
I am a communications for development specialist with over 15 years’ experience in health communications across Africa, particularly in the design and execution of communication strategies, conceptualization of communication and advocacy campaigns, social marketing, social franchise management and the provision of technical assistance communications in areas of sexual reproductive health programs, nutrition, maternal, neonatal and child health, malaria, HIV and sexual and gender-based violence.
As Social Behaviour Communications Change Lead for Africa, my role intersects with various CABI projects in Africa to embed a social behaviour change communication approach to the projects and programmes. This involves working with the various CABI project teams and Project Managers, worldwide.
Before joining CABI, I worked as Lead Communication Consultant in Kenya working for PCI Media, supporting the development of a National Social Behaviour Change Communications strategy for the Nutrition Improvements Through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) programme – implemented through UNICEF and the national government of Kenya, under the Ministry of Health, Social Protection Department and National Drought Management. My key role was to provide oversight and leadership in the development process and provide coordination between the various government agencies and UNICEF.
Other experience includes working with Planned Parenthood Global as Regional Communication and Behaviour Change Officer and Later (Ag) Associate Director, Communications, also with Population Services Kenya as and Social Franchise Behaviour Change Coordinator.
My skills include proposal development, project management, developing communication strategies, monitoring, evaluation and learning and budgeting.
CABI centre: Kenya
CABI has a regional centre for Africa in Nairobi. Agriculture is essential for sub-Saharan Africa’s economic growth and yet average crop yields in Africa are among the lowest in the world. Over 80% rely on it but many face challenges in growing sufficient good quality produce.

Joint crop and livestock services for smallholder farmers
Crop and livestock health is crucial to agricultural productivity and farmer livelihoods. However, in low-income countries, smallholders are often left without sufficient support to deal with crop and animal problems due to existing agricultural extension services being understaffed and underfunded. CABI’s work in plant health and plant clinics over the last 15 years has revealed potential ‘One Health’ (OH) benefits of broadening the scope of plant clinics to better meet farmers’ need for advice. This project will develop integrated crop-livestock health advisory services that will enable male and female smallholder farmers in Uganda to address major health and production problems affecting crops, livestock, and food safety.
