Bibliometric analysis of One Health research
We analysed research labelled One Health against the six action tracks in the One Health Quadripartite’s Joint Plan of Action (JPA). Our research finds there has been an exponential increase in research labelled One Health since 2018, and Europe, Asia and Africa have experienced the most marked growth in originating research. However, there are significant disparities in decision-making power between One Health researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and those in high-income countries (HICs).
Horizon scanning
To inform One Health research priorities, we have conducted a horizon scanning project guided by an expert panel of One Health specialists. The project, in collaboration with Oxford Systematic Reviews (OXSREV) as part of Juno Evidence Alliance’s work under the One Health Hub, finds that the top global research priorities include integrated surveillance systems, climate change and emerging diseases, governance mechanisms for One Health, antimicrobial resistance, and socio-environmental drivers of disease.
Zoonoses systematic map
How we produce, process, and consume food plays a significant role in the occurrence of zoonotic disease. The research gaps in this area also need to be addressed in order to inform future action. From a systematic mapping of literature conducted by the Juno Evidence Alliance, we have found that the factors most-studied for their influence on zoonotic disease occurrence include host exposure, socio-economic factors, physical and environmental conditions, and domesticated animal management practices.
Plant health for One Health
While plant health has been increasingly recognized as a vital part of One Health, it still lacks high-level recognition in comparison to other areas of One Health and has been overlooked in strategic plans. Time for this to change.
Operationalizing One Health in Africa
The One Health Hub is investigating the factors supporting or limiting One Health implementation. This research, in partnership with the Juno Evidence Alliance, will advance the findings of a systematic map reviewing the state of evidence on operationalizing One Health in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. It will build on an earlier study (below) by the Juno Evidence Alliance.
