Publishing Policies

CAB Reviews offers a fast publication schedule whilst maintaining rigorous peer review. The use of the Editorial Manager electronic manuscript submission system greatly expedites processing. When a new manuscript, the editorial office performs preliminary checks before refereeing to ensure the article is a review article, is complete, in the correct format, is original, fits with the scope of the journal, complies with the style of a scientific article and written in comprehensible and clear English. The journal may reject articles that do not pass this initial assessment.

Commissioned reviews are sent to up to 4 independent referees for assessment. They are requested to comment on the quality, scientific rigour, novelty, usefulness to the field, comprehensiveness, citation of appropriate literature, readability. Referees are chosen from the reviewer database for the journal with the aim of combining relevant scientific expertise and referee experience. The identity of the referees are not disclosed to the author. Authors may suggest referees for their paper on submission, but this is not required. To achieve impartiality, such suggested referees are complemented with further referees that have not been proposed by the author. All referees must confirm that there is no conflict of interest in conducting the duties of a referee for the particular work.

CAB Reviews is dedicated to publishing reviews of quality and usefulness. It does not have a fixed rejection rate. Decisions are based on both the referee’s written report and on quality assessment scores provided by the reviewer. Following assessment of the referee reports the article will be accepted, rejected, or sent back to the author for revision. A revised paper will then be subject to further peer review

Every effort is made to give authors a decision following peer-review within 5 weeks of an article's submission. Articles are published electronically as promptly as possible after they are accepted, and typically within 6 weeks of acceptance.

Submission of an article to CAB Reviews implies that all contributors have read it and agree to its content. Material submitted to CAB Reviews must not have been simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.

Copyright of material published in CAB Reviews belongs to the Publisher, CABI.

There are no page charges or fees for publishing in CAB Reviews. If you wish your article to be Open Access, please contact the Commissioning Editor regarding the article processing charge arrangements.
