Restraint techniques for small to medium-sized dog. Turning a medium sized dog onto his side. A larger dog may be turned on the floor. A smaller dog placed in a standing position onto the table. Place one arm over the dog's body and grab the limbs nearest you. Roll the dog slowly down your body holding the limbs in an upward position and with your arm over the dog's neck. This restrains the dog's head. Restraining for jugular and cephalic venipuncture. Remove the dog's collar, and ensure the dog is in a sitting position. Raise the dog's head exposing the neck securing the dog against your body using your arm. To restrain for a cephalic injection, hold the dog's head away from you whilst extending the cephalic vein towards the operator. The vein may be rotated and raised.
