Abstract

Theileria annulata is transmitted by Hyalomma detritum detritum with over a 33% mortality rate in cattle in China. This paper deals with both a treatment for the infection and a vaccination. 'Bovine Theileriocide' is the drug primaquin phosphate and has an efficacy rate of 100%. A bovine Theileria...

Abstract

Three immunization trials were carried out against East Coast fever (ECF) on Unguja Island, Zanzibar, during 1986-1987 in Bos taurus calves. During these trials 40 animals were immunized with the Zanzibar South stabilate of Theileria parva; there was only one adverse reaction. Susceptible control ...

Abstract

Nineteen pure-bred Jersey (Bos taurus) calves and 2 Jersey × New Zealand milking Zebu (NZMZ) cross- bred calves aged 13-15 months were immunized on Pemba Island, Zanzibar, with 1 ml of Theileria parva stabilate (2913) at a 1:10 dilution. Nine pure-bred Jersey calves and one NZMZ calf (Friesian (Bos ...

Abstract

The importance of theileriosis in livestock in Kenya is discussed. Five species of Theileria were recognized in cattle: T. parva, T. lawrencei, T. taurotragi, T. mutans, and T. velifera. Information on the current status of theileriosis, and tick (Rhipicephalus appendiculatus) control is given.
