Abstract

In this update on drench resistance in New Zealand it is reported that in sheep, resistance to anthelmintics of the benzimidazole group is important, whereas in goats, benzimidazole, levamisole and ivermectin resistance are common.

Abstract

The value of controlled release anthelmintic capsules (releasing 32.5 mg albendazole/day for a minimum of 100 days) for the control of nematodes in sheep is discussed. Continuous release of the active anthelmintic gives a versatility that is not obvious in the practical use of equivalent liquid...

Abstract

A mathematical model was developed as a research tool to study nematode control and anthelmintic resistance. The structure and functions of the model are defined and by the use of examples, the use of the model to compare the efficacy of different drenching strategies and their effect on resistance ...

Abstract

Although the same nematode parasites infect goats and sheep, certain anthelmintics appear to be less successful in goats. This article brings up to date information relating to the use of anthelmintics in goats (the last update being 1986). The anthelmintics discussed include the benzimidazoles,...

Abstract

Antigen was prepared from eggs of Taenia ovis and emulsified with Freund's complete adjuvant, and injected into lambs. A significant degree of resistance was observed to a subsequent challenge infection. The possibility of the serodiagnosis of T. ovis in dogs is being examined. A deterministic...

Abstract

The Centre is concerned mainly with diseases of farm livestock, and the 43 members of the staff tackled a variety of problems. During work on pneumonia in sheep, it became apparent that pasteurella pneumonia is seasonal in occurrence; also, exposure of lambs to infection by Pasteurella haemolytica...

Abstract

Brief reports are given of work on: immunobiology of hydatid cysts in sheep; immunization against adult cestodes in dogs; development of taeniid cestode larvae (in vitro and in vivo); serodiagnosis of larval cestode infections; in vitro culture of T. ovis larvae; evaluation of drugs (praziquantel,...

Abstract

Work reported includes the isolation of a strain of Haemonchus contortus markedly resistant to albendazole and thiabendazole from sheep at Ruakura, relationships between nutrition, drenching strategy and H. contortus infection in sheep, the epizootiology of H. contortus in sheep under intensive...
