Live, attenuated FMD vaccines, prepared from type O virus grown either in rabbit kidney or bovine embryonic kidney cell monolayers, were found to be safe, non-infective for in-contact cattle, and immunogenic. In prophylactic trials, only 3537 (2.1%) of 159, 779 vaccinated cattle developed FMD.
