Abstract

The Coquimbo region is the main region for livestock farming in Chilean dry zones. Nearly half of the region (47%) shows signs of desertification. Numbers of goats, sheep and cattle in 1995 had decreased to 67, 31 and 43% of the numbers in 1955. Weather data are also presented.
