Abstract

Nodules of Onchocerca lienalis were found in 19.8% and of O. gutturosa in 3.1% of 913 cattle examined in 1980-1982 at slaughterhouses receiving animals from all districts of the Dagestan ASSR (USSR). Infections were highest in animals aged > 5 years and were absent in those aged < 1 year. The microfilarial infection rates for 12 administrative districts varied from 1 to 56.2% and were highest in areas rich in natural water bodies or well developed irrigation systems.
