Abstract

Cellular hypersensitivity of bovine leukocytes to Cysticercus bovis antigen (concentrations of 100 mu g/ml and 200 mu g/ml) in an experimentally infected calf was demonstrated by the migration-inhibition test. The maximum rate of migration inhibition was 44%. Lymphokine was detected.

Abstract

The indirect haemagglutination reaction and microprecipitation were used to study the antibody response in calves infected with Taenia saginata ova in relation to the tissue reaction. The first test became positive on day 21, the 2nd test between days 16 and 21, i.e. in the period of acute...

Abstract

The tissue reaction around developing C. bovis in 2 neonatally infected calves (25 000 eggs 4 days after birth) differed quantitatively and qualitatively from the reaction in calves infected when several months old. In neonatal infections the tissue reaction was much weaker than in older calves....

Abstract

One dwarf goat, 4 sheep and 3 lambs were infected with 200 000, 150 000 and 500 000 eggs of T. saginata, respectively. Examination of one of the sheep on day 14 of the infection showed no abnormalities so the remaining 3 were reinfected with 200 000 eggs on day 26. The intensity of infection was...

Abstract

Of 29 bulls with cysticerciasis (confirmed at slaughter) 11 (37.9%) were positive by indirect haemagglutination (IHAT), 15 (51.7%) by microprecipitation in agar and 3 (10.3%) by indirect immunofluorescence (IFAT). Of 78 bulls negative by IHAT, 70 negative by microprecipitation and 71 negative by...

Abstract

Histochemical studies on the cysticercus and surrounding tissue reaction were performed at various intervals after experimental infection. It was found that acid mucosubstances and proteins with SH- and SS-groups appeared first in the granulation tissue around the cysticercus (on about day 14 p.i.) ...

Abstract

Clinical and laboratory examinations of calves experimentally infected with Taenia saginata eggs are described. At the early stage of infection, raised temperature, cough, muscle shaking and staggering were observed. The locomotive disorders disappeared only on day 50 p.i. Leukocystosis and...

Abstract

The tissue reactions of the brain, skeletal muscles and heart in experimental C. bovis infection of reindeer are described. Non-purulent cysticercal leptomeningites with formation of multinucleate symplasms occurs in the cerebral meninges, and lymphocytic encephalitis in the superficial layers of...
