Abstract

Leptospiral agglutinins were demonstrated in 59% of 1934 apparently healthy cattle, particularly to L. sejroe (15.3% of reactors) and L. medanensis (14.9%), 72% of 1533 cattle suspected of leptospirosis, particularly to L. pomona (21.3%), L. medanensis (20.3%) and L. sejroe (19.8%), 24.8% of 165...

Abstract

Virulence factors (hydrophobicity of cell surface, capsule formation and slime production) were investigated in 393 coagulase negative Staphylococcus (CNS) strains; 190 isolated from bovine mastitis and 203 from human infections. In addition, a selected number of CNS species were experimentally...

Abstract

71 bulk tank milk samples from dairy herds in southern Chile were examined for Mycoplasma in July 1997 using bacteriological culture. 53 composite milk samples from cows with clinical mastitis or high somatic cell counts were also examined. Isolates were differentiated to species level by an...

Abstract

A cross-sectional survey of 523 dairy farms in the south of Chile was carried out to quantify risk factors associated with bulk-milk somatic-cell count (BMSCC) >200×103 cells/ml. Questionnaires followed by one reminder were sent to 3710 dairy farms via the 11 milk-processing plants that they...

Abstract

Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined in a total of 1419 strains of Escherichia coil, streptococci and staphylococci isolated from lactating cows suffering from clinical mastitis in Chile during the 2000 to 2001 period. Antimicrobial agents tested were penicillin, amoxicillin,...
