Abstract

Examination of 2069 cattle from 10 rural (village) and 13 urban areas in Andaman and Nicobar, India, in November and December showed 43.5% to be infected with Stephanofilaria assamensis. 57.32% of cattle from rural areas were infected, compared with 31.49% from urban areas. Animals < 1 year old were not infected. Infection was most common on the hump (82.2% of cases) but was also found on the ear, leg and abdomen.
