Abstract

Clinically significant hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to the chemotherapy drug L-asparaginase are reported in humans and dogs, but frequency in small animals is not well-defined. This study retrospectively evaluated the frequency of HSR to L-asparaginase given by IM injection to dogs and cats...

Abstract

Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent used to treat cats with lymphoma, carcinomas and sarcomas. However, no clear consensus exists regarding the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of oral cyclophosphamide in cats. Toxicities are rarely reported at published oral dosages of cyclophosphamide (200-300...

Abstract

Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent used as chemotherapy for cats with lymphoma, carcinomas and sarcomas. Clinical and pharmacokinetic studies of cyclophosphamide in normal and tumor-bearing cats have shown minimal toxicity and cyclophosphamide at clinically used dosages rarely requires dosage...

Abstract

Background. L-asparaginase is effective in treating canine and feline lymphoma, however chemotherapy poses a significant financial cost to veterinary clients, limiting therapy for many pets. Single dose vials result in significant drug wastage, and drug shortages limit consistent availability for...

Abstract

Case summary: A 7-year-old mixed-breed cat presented with subcutaneous oedema and erythema extending from the right axilla to the abdomen. Abstract

Background: L-Asparaginase (Elspara), is an Escherichia coli-derived enzyme that depletes lymphoma cells of asparagine, inhibiting protein synthesis and resulting in cell death. The single agent response rate in cats with lymphoma and impact of L-asparaginase on plasma amino acid concentrations is...

Multi-drug chemotherapy protocols for feline lymphoma have demonstrated variable efficacy and tolerability. In phase I trials, lomustine has demonstrated efficacy for cats with lymphoma though its use for treatment naïve feline intermediate/large cell gastrointestinal (GI) lymphoma remains unknown. ...

AbstractFull Text

It is reported the treatment of a 2-year-old male castrated domestic feline, 6.8 kg of body weight, with mediastinal lymphoma. At clinical examination, it showed a temperature of 38°C, superficial restrictive inspiratory dyspnea, <2 s capillary refill time, heart rate of 140 beats/min, respiratory rate 62/min. In the laboratory analyzes was found leukopenia with lymphopenia and positive for the feline leukemia virus. Radiography and thoracic ultrasound showed moderate pleural effusion and a rounded hypoechoic structure with irregular edges, respectively. The thoracocentesis revealed the presence of chylothorax and the cytology by fine needle puncture of the rounded structure allowed a final diagnosis of mediastinal lymphoma. A chemotherapy was instituted with L-asparaginase, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and...
