Improving lives by solving problems in agriculture and the environment

CABI's Genetic Resource Catalogue

Our living culture collection comprises 30,000 cultures of fungi and bacteria representing unique biodiversity from around world. Over half of our holdings are isolated from plant material and includes pathogens, endophytes and saprophytes. We also have strains isolated from tropical rainforests, agricultural land, desserts, oceans, lakes and river systems making it one of the most important microbiology collections in the world.  Our collection contains strains for assay and tests, to strains that produce metabolites and enzymes. We also have many entomopathogens and other potential biological control agents, along with food and industrial strains. We also have a culture of Sir Alexander Fleming‘s penicillin producing strain of Penicillium along with many other strains that can be used in many commercial processes and for research and education.
