Frequently asked questions: Textbooks
Q. How do I submit a request for an e-inspection copy?
Submit your request through CABI Digital Comps. Requests are manually reviewed, so access may take a few days. If you do not hear from us within 7 days, check your junk folder in case your confirmation email has ended up there.
Q. What do I do if I still don’t have a confirmation email providing access to my e-inspection copy?
Try logging in to your CABI Digital Comps Bookshelf with the email address you registered with. Click ‘forgot password?’ if you are unable to log in. If your book is still not there, then get in touch with us and we’ll look into this for you.
Q. Can I print my e-inspection copy?
Our e-inspection copies are specifically for you to assess relevant textbooks for course use, and are not for sharing. Limited printing and copying is permitted, but the default is to read online. If you are visually impaired and require an alternative version, please contact us.
Q. How long can I have my e-inspection copy for?
e-Inspection copies are valid for 60 days after you have downloaded the title to your Bookshelf.
Q. I ran out of time to look at my e-inspection copy, can I have longer to assess it?
Log in to your CABI Digital Comps Bookshelf, select the book and then select ‘submit a request for a review extension’. Multiple extension requests will not be possible, so please be sure to request it when you are ready to assess the title for your course!
Q. Can I get my e-inspection copy on my VitalSource Bookshelf instead?
If you already use VitalSource for your inspection copies, you should also be able to request sample copies of CABI books via your Bookshelf.
Q. Can I have a print inspection copy?
In line with our mission and commitment to the environment, we aim to send e-inspection copies wherever possible. This also helps us to keep the price of our textbooks as low as possible. Print exam copies of key texts can be made available on request.
Q. Why can’t I request an e-inspection copy for a book that I’m interested in?
If the book is only recently published, it may not be available on our e-inspection copy platform yet. e-Inspection copies will be available up to four weeks after print publication. If it still isn’t available, it may be delayed, or we may not hold digital rights for this title – get in touch and we can look into it further for you.
Q. Which titles are available as print inspection copies?
The only titles available as print inspection copies are our course texts – those that we consider to be a true textbook that would be assigned as the primary text on a course. Research monographs and library reference titles are not available in print, but e-inspection copies may be requested so that you can assess whether this is a useful title for your library.
Q. I am visually impaired, can I have a print copy?
Q. What if I want to adopt the text, can I have a desk copy?
Yes, we can send you a desk copy of a textbook if you are teaching a relevant course with more than 12 students. This does not apply to research monographs or library reference titles.
Q. Do you have additional lecturer resources for your textbooks?
Some texts are accompanied by additional online resources for lecturers, such as PowerPoint slides, images and figures, and student exercises. If the book you are interested in has additional resources, you will also find a link from the book page on the Bookshop.
Q. How can I give feedback on a textbook?
If you have evaluated a title through CABI Digital Comps, you can provide feedback through your Bookshelf. Log in and go to the title you want to give feedback on, and click ‘submit feedback’ on the right-hand side.
