23 April 2019 – CABI has showcased its expertise in agricultural knowledge to some of Hungary’s leading information experts, librarians and scientists as part of a special open day aimed at raising awareness of its knowledge databases, compendia and e-books.
The Hungarian Electronic Information Service (EISZ) organised the event which gave the opportunity for CABI’s Daniel Lungu, Area Sales Manager, Central and Eastern Europe, to highlight the benefits of CABI’s key publishing products – including CAB Abstracts – to attendees at the Szent István University of Gödöllő SZIE and from the National Agricultural Innovation Research Centre NAIK.
CAB Abstracts, with over 9.2 million records, is the leading agricultural bibliographic information service which provides access to the world’s applied life sciences literature. It includes CABI Full Text that gives users access to nearly 450,000 journal articles, conference papers and reports – 80% of which are not available electronically anywhere else.

Dr Stefan Toepfer from CABI’s Swiss centre, who holds an Adjunct Professorship at the Szent István University of Gödöllő and works closely with scientists from the Plant Protection Institute of the university including Prof Jozsef Kiss and Dr Szalai Mark, said, “As Hungary has a strong agricultural sector, CABI publishing products had been available across many Hungarian universities, research institutes and government agencies for decades.
“However, due to re-structuring of some of them and due to budget limits, CABI’s information sources are not always available any more. To overcome this Daniel Lungu is currently working closely with Hungarian institutions to find a way forward.”
EISZ, a consortium under the umbrella of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences MTA, manages subscriptions to databases and other knowledge sources as well as open-access publication possibilities for Hungarian scientific stakeholders.
