C&A Foundation looks forward to organic cotton partnership with CABI Pakistan

10 December 2018 - The C&A Foundation is looking to forge a partnership with CABI in Pakistan to share knowledge and expertise in fighting agriculture pests and diseases that could affect the production of organic cotton crops.

Mashood Ahmed, C&A Foundation's Country Advisor for Pakistan, met with Dr Babar Bajwa, Regional Director  - CABI Central and West Asia, to explore avenues of partnership such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach, technology transfer and capacity building of various stakeholders.

C&A Foundation is a corporate foundation, affiliated to the global retailer C&A, and aims to help make the apparel industry more sustainable through the promotion of sustainable products, sustainable supply chains and sustainable lives.

Dr Bajwa highlighted CABI's work with the farming community in Pakistan, including institutional capacity building, for cotton crops. He also briefed Mr Ahmed on CABI's history for biological control and for using ecological approaches to develop integrated pest management regimes for cotton producers.

As well as considering approaches to seek and address knowledge gaps in the cotton value chain, Dr Bajwa informed Mr Ahmed of the management systems Prince2, Program Management and the monitoring and evaluation of projects being implemented at CABI's Pakistan centre.

As part of the visit Mr Ahmed was shown the Biological Control Laboratory, the Insect Museum and the laboratory for the biological control of Parthenium weed.
