Leisure Tourism Database breaks content records again

Over 10,600 new database records added in 2013

The Leisure Tourism Database once more added new bibliographic records and Full Text content at a record rate in 2013, finishing the year with almost 140,000 database records and over 4000 Full Text records plus over 2000 eBooks and book chapters.

The number of records indexed on the database hit 10,689 during 2013, about 150 more than in the previous year. The number of Full Text records added was 1134, now over 10% of all new content. The chapters of several new eBooks bring the eBook content to over 2000 PDFs for the first time.

As in other recent years, the journal title contributing most new papers during 2013 was Tourism Management, with 170 papers indexed. Reflecting the unique international coverage of the Leisure Tourism Database, the next highest number came from the Spanish journal Turismo y Desarrollo: Revista de Investigación en Turisme y Desarrollo Local, followed by the Chinese-published Tourism Tribune. The most common language, not surprisingly, was English, which made up nearly 83% of papers added. The next most frequent language for 2013 was Portugese with 500 records, closely followed by Spanish with 474. Looking at Geographic Location indexed during 2013, the USA was the most common, reflecting the amount of research referring to the U.S. Next most common was China, one of the fastest growing tourism markets, with Brazil and the UK the next most frequently indexed countries.

265 News and Editorial articles were added during 2013. Many of these articles highlighted papers and reports deemed to be of interest to Leisure Tourism Database subscribers, with links to original papers and full text reports added where possible. We also cover major news and developments in the travel, tourism, hospitality and leisure industries, including sports economics and sociology.

We have exciting new developments planned for 2014, with a new website platform under development and now in Beta testing. The new site will include new features including the ability to personalize the user experience, save searches and set up alerts.

We wish all users a happy and prosperous 2014.
