Chapter 16 (Page no: 215)

Agritourist farms and enterprises around the world.

This chapter examines the diversity, attractiveness and general principles of management of 22 agritourist farms and enterprises from different parts of the world, namely Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, UK, USA and Zanzibar. This chapter describes a Safari Park in Swierkocin, Poland, a deer farm on the agritourist farm Deer Pine Lodge near Rotorua in New Zealand and the keeping of wild forest bees, which are rare nowadays, on a bee farm owned by the Shulgan Tash National Park in Bashkiria. Five examples of agritourist farms that use cheese in their activity are Lynher Farms and Dairies, where Cornish Yarg cheese is manufactured (United Kingdom), Hohensteiner Farm in the Swabian Mountains (Germany), where ecological farm cheese is produced, a monks' farm (Italy, near Rome), where cheese is manufactured from buffalo milk, Pelardon Farm in Languedoc (France) breeding goats and manufacturing goat cheese, and Société Roquefort producing sheep cheese in the caves of the Massif Central (France). Restaurants are becoming an integral element of modern agritourism. Most traditional agritourist farms offer home meals. Agritourist restaurants differ from traditional restaurants in that they are owned by a farmer, who offers local dishes, which are usually made from the food produced on his farm.
