Pathogen Characteristics

Macrobrachium rosenbergii nodavirus (MrNV) and the associated extra small virus (XSV) have been identified as the causative agents of white tail disease (WTD) of M. rosenbergii (Qian et al., 2003). The role of XSV in pathogenicity is unclear.

MrNV belongs in the family Nodaviridae. It is icosahedral in shape and 27 nm in diameter. Its genome is composed of two fragments of linear single-stranded RNA of 2.9 and 1.3 kb, respectively and its capsids exhibited a single polypeptide of 43 kDa (Bonami et al., 2005).
