Abstract

A likely population of the alien gecko Mediodactylus kotschyi (Steindachner, 1870) in the province of Belluno (northeastern Italian Alps).

Abstract

A small group of specimens of Kotschy's gecko (Mediodactylus kotschyi) was found in 2018 in Paiane (Ponte nelle Alpi), in the province of Belluno, on the walls of a building. To date, no newborns have been observed, but the continuous sightings for at least three consecutive years suggest the existence of a small population. Pending further investigations, some hypotheses about its possible origin are presented.
