Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Nardus stricta (Poaceae) - a new species for the flora of the Russian Far East and analysis of its distribution.

Abstract

It is reported that a new invasive species Nardus stricta L. (Poaceae), new to the flora of the Russian Far East, was found on the Kuril Islands (Iturup Island). The information on the geographical distribution of the species, as well as its ecological, biological and ecological-phytocenotic features, which allow actively expanding its secondary range, are presented. Based on the analysis of the authors' own data and published literature data, the invasive potential of the species was considered and a conclusion was drawn about the possibility of its further spread on Iturup Island. Monitoring and control over the state of the N. stricta population is recommended, since it is a potentially dangerous species for the ecosystems of the Kuril Islands.
