Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

The leafhoppers and planthoppers of the city park in Graz (Styria, Austria) (Insecta: Hemiptera, Auchenorrhyncha).

Abstract

In course of a "summer school" on Auchenorrhyncha, leafand planthoppers were collected in the "Stadtpark", an urban park covering an area of approx. 220.000 m2 in the very center of Graz (Styria, Austria), in two days and one night in July 2019.95 Auchenorrhyncha species were collected, among them 10 alien species. Edwardsiana platanicola was found in Austria for the first time. Other remarkable records include Anoscopus carlebippus, Empoasca dealbata and Synophropsis lauri. The species number is high, compared to other studies of urban landscapes and parks in Europe. Thus, the status of the "Stadtpark" as protected area is strongly supported.
