Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Assessment of microclimatic conditions in Phragmitetum australis cenoses in the Dniester mouth area under the influence of Zizania latifolia invasion.

Abstract

The evaluation of the invasive species Zizania latifolia impact on microclimatic conditions of the aboriginal cenoses of the higher aquatic plants in the coastal zone of the Dniester mouth area (Nyzhniodnistrovskiy (Lower Dniester) National natural reserve) was carried out. It was stated that the main regulation factors of the microclimatic changes are the phytomass density and the leaf blade area. The Zizanietum cenoses form environmental conditions, which lead to extinction of many other species, including those of wide ecological amplitude, particularly Ph. australis - edifier of the wetland vegetation.
