Abstract

Combatting invasive insects in sugarcane and rice.

Abstract

This paper provides information on some of the most destructive insect pests of sugarcane and rice crops in Louisiana, USA, such as the Mexican rice borer (Eoreuma loftini), sugarcane aphid (Melanaphis sacchari) and rice delphacid (Tagosodes orizicolus). Some beneficial invaders, such as the red imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta) and the tawny crazy ant (Nylanderia fulva), which are highly effective foragers and can greatly reduce borer infestations, are also presented.
