Current situation of mangrove resources and countermeasures in Huidong County.

Abstract

The mangrove resources in Huidong county, Guangdong province were investigated by satellite remote sensing survey in 2018 and spot plot survey. The results showed that there were 1 361.83 hm2 mangrove, including 400.15 hm2 mangrove forest land, 42.27 hm2 young mangrove forest land and 919.41 hm2 suitable land for mangrove. There were 15 species of mangrove plants in the county, including 9 true mangrove species, 6 semi mangrove ones and 29 associated ones. Analysis was made on distribution and area of Mangroves in Huidong, their types of communities, species diversity, original nature and threats. Meanwhile, mangroves were threatened by reclamation and cultivation, tourism development and construction, invasive alien species like Sonneratia apetala, untreated sewage discharge, etc. Countermeasures were put forwarded like protection policies, mixed mangrove communities, reducing coastal beach aquaculture, constructing sewage treatment, etc.
