Abstract

First report of the invasive pharaoh ant, Monomorium pharaonis, in Morelos State, Mexico.

Abstract

In October 2020, in the city of Cuernavaca in Morelos, Mexico, ants were observed feeding in in vitro bioassays of Apis mellifera larvae (Hymenoptera: Apidae) in an incubator in the laboratory. Samples of specimens of worker ants were collected for more detailed examination with the aid of a stereo-microscope (Leica EZ4) and were identified according to taxonomic keys as the invasive pharaoh ant Monomorium pharaonis. This is thought to be the first report of the pharaoh ant in Morelos, Mexico.
