Looking for invasive foreign in-law: a case study from ZA & ZAHO herbarium collections.
The summary of the Herbaria collection represents the most reliable historical sources of data on foreign plant species. A total of 1152 herbarium leaves with 70 invasive plant taxa were found within ZA and ZAHO collections. The intensity of collecting invasive taxa has not been constant over time, as much as 67% of the collection was collected after World War II, and the peaks of collection were from 1910 to 1920, from 1960 to 1970, and after 2010. Herbarium specimens of 17 species prove their first occurrence in Croatia long before it was known from literature. To increase the public availability of the collection, all specimens are digitized and published in virtual herbarium.
