Abstract

Japanese beetles: use of native fungi against this invasive pest.

Abstract

The Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica), an invasive pest, has reached Switzerland. In the contaminated area north of Italy, it has caused considerable damage to vineyards as well as in fruit, berry and soyabean crops for several years. The phytosanitary protection research group in Agroscope's arable crops, based on its experience with native insects related to the Japanese beetle, is working on a sustainable control strategy. This consists of using entomogenosu fungi against this voracious beetle and its larvae.
