Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

First records of American lobster (Homarus americanus) (Crustacea: Nephropidae) from Irish waters.

Abstract

Although there are unconfirmed anecdotal reports of live American Lobsters (Homarus americanus) occurring in Irish waters dating back to the mid-1980s, it was not until 2015 that the first three specimens were confirmed from Howth, Co. Dublin (Irish Sea), followed by two more specimens from the same area during 2016 and 2017, and two more south of this area during 2018 and 2019. The potential negative impacts of H. americanus on Irish stocks of native European Lobster (H. gammarus), including pathways of introduction and management and control issues are reviewed.
