Abstract

Colletotrichum brevisporum is associated with anthracnose of red bell pepper fruit in Trinidad.

Abstract

From September 2012-17, red bell pepper fruit (Capsicum annuum) with sunken, brown lesions were collected from fields located in the main growing areas in Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago. The causal pathogen was isolated and identified as Colletotrichum brevisporum based on morphological characteristics, molecular data (sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer, actin and β-tubulin gene regions) and pathogenicity tests. This is thought to be the first report of C. brevisporum infecting red bell pepper fruit in Trinidad.
