Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Special Issue: Emerging trends in aquatic ecology III.

Abstract

This special issue contains 14 papers presenting novel approaches in aquatic sciences, particularly marine sciences, focusing on a variety of methodologies, research themes and questions, and groups of organisms. Five papers in this issue deal with aquatic invasive species, highlighting in different ways the direct and indirect threats that invasive species pose to biodiversity conservation. Five papers investigate non-marine ostracods and bacterial communities colonizing different substrates of a lake. Two papers dealt with benthic communities in contrasting environments: one study on tropical streams and another on Antarctica. Two papers focused on ecosystem perspectives of aquatic environments, namely one on carbon stock and one on light pollution.
