Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Coexistence and multitrophics interactions of Ibalia leucospoides (Hymenoptera: Ibaliidae) y Megarhyssa nortoni (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), parasitoids of a forest invasive pest.

Abstract

The parasitoids Ibalia leucospoides and Megharyssa nortoni are natural enemies of Sirex noctilio (Hymenoptera: Siricidae), one of the most important pests of pine afforestation world-wide which is present in Argentina since 1993. M. nortoni has been recently introduced in our country, while I. leucospoides established decades ago. The present project aims to elucidate the ecological and behavioral processes that could promote the coexistence of both parasitoids and to determine whether the introduction of more than one species leads to an improvement in the success of classical biological control.
