Abstract

First report of Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus in passion fruit plants exhibiting mosaic and mottling in China.

Abstract

In March and April 2019, a total of 108 leaf samples from passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) were collected from Wuzhou, Guangxi and Baoshan, Yunnan, China. Sequencing analysis showed that all the amplicons shared 100% nucleotide identity with each other, and the sequence (GenBank accession number MN119288) shared 99.13 and 94.76% identity with Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV) isolate GS1 from South Korea (GenBank KR231947.1) and RefSeq (NC_003688), respectively, in BLASTN. Western blot analysis was used to confirm infection by CABYV using CABYV-MP specific antibody, and the 20 kDa CABYV-MP was detected in 90 symptomatic samples and not in 18 asymptomatic plants. This is thought to be the first report of CABYV infecting passion fruit in China.
