Abstract

First report of fruit spot of Macadamia sp. caused by Calonectria pentaseptata in China.

Abstract

In June 2018, a fruit spot disease was found on a macadamia (Macadamia sp.) plantation in Jinghong city, Yunnan, China. There were brown lesions on the peel of the diseased fruit, the boundary of the lesion was water soaked, and there was white mycelial growth on the fruit lesion, which caused more than 50% yield loss on severely infected plants. The causal pathogen was isolated and identified as Calonectria pentaseptata based on morphological characteristics and molecular data (sequence analysis of ITS (MH794284), TEF1-α (MH794285), HIS3 (MH794286), and TUB2 (MH794287)). This is thought to be the first report of C. pentaseptata causing macadamia fruit brown spot in Yunnan, China.
