Abstract

First report of pod wart disease of peanut caused by Streptomyces spp. in the western hemisphere.

Abstract

In August 2018, pods with wart-like symptoms were collected from groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) cv. Georgia-06G plants at the University of Georgia, Bowen Farm, Tifton, Georgia, USA. Putative bacterial pathogens were isolated from the groundnut pericarp as previously described. The causal pathogen was identified as Streptomyces spp. based on morphological, molecular and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of Streptomyces spp. causing pod wart disease of groundnut in the USA and the Western Hemisphere.
