Eltonian niche width determines range expansion success in ectomycorrhizal conifers.
This paper is a commentary on the article by Pither et al. [See New Phytologist (2018) Vol. 220, Issue 4, 1148-1160], which opens new horizons in the study of mycorrhizal symbiosis and range dynamics. This is valuable in the context of understanding ecosystem responses to climate change, as well as responses to other drivers, such as changing land use and invasion of alien taxa. The article will hopefully act as a catalyst for further work in this direction.
