Surveying and monitoring methods for fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).
The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith), is an important alien pest, and has invaded into more than 500 counties, 14 provinces in mainland China now. Because it would cause great threat to corn and other planting industries in China, it is even more necessary and urgent to carry out the monitoring and control of S. frugiperda. In this paper, the systematic methods of investigation and monitoring for S. frugiperda "corn strain", with the adult population, occurrence in the field and damage rate, were presented. The methods would provide the basis not only for clearing the adult migration, population, damage and their dynamics, but also for determining the distribution region, and forecasting the occurrence period and degree, etc.
