Abstract

First report of Curvularia lunata causing leaf spot of Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis in Thailand.

Abstract

During April-August 2017, leaf spot of Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis) was observed on a demonstration field at the Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. The primary symptom was small circular dark spots 0.1-0.2 cm in diameter, growing to 0.2-0.5 cm with dark brown margins. Disease incidence reached approximately 20% in the field. The causal pathogen was isolated and identified as Curvularia lunata [Cochliobolus lunatus] based on morphological, molecular and pathogenicity analyses. The obtained sequences were deposited in GenBank as accession number LC384896 (ITS). This is thought to be the first report of leaf spot caused by C. lunatus on B. pekinensis in Thailand.
