Abstract

First report of Epicoccum nigrum causing disease in Lotus corniculatus in Argentina.

Abstract

In January 2018, black leaf spots were observed on Lotus corniculatus in field plots in ChascomĂşs, Buenos Aires, Argentina. These spots were amphigenous, circular to irregular, 2-8 mm diameter, close to the leaf margin and reddish brown. Single lesions often coalesced to form larger lesions and became dark brown. The causal pathogen was isolated and identified as Epicoccum nigrum based on morphological and molecular analyses. The obtained sequences were deposited in GenBank as accession number MH042300 (ITS). This is thought to be the first report of leaf spot caused by E. nigrum on L. corniculatus in Argentina.
