Abstract

First report of a 'Candidatus Phytoplasma trifolii'-related strain associated with soybean bud proliferation and seed pod abortion in Iran.

Abstract

In 2016, soyabeans (Glycine max) exhibiting symptoms including bud proliferation and aborted seed pods, but showed no stunting or growth reduction were observed in commercial fields in Mazandaran and Golestan provinces, Iran. Approximately 25% of plants were diseased. The causal pathogen was isolated and identified as Phytoplasma trifolii based on molecular analysis. The obtained sequences were deposited in GenBank as accession numbers MG992479 and MG992480. This is thought to be the first report of bud proliferation and seed pod abortion caused by P. trifolii on G. max in Iran and worldwide.
