Evaluation of invasive plant Centaurea balsamita cold acclimated in the spring to chilling and freezing stress.

Abstract

This paper presents the results of studies conducted in Iran to evalute the tolerance of the invasive Centaurea balsamita cold acclimated in spring to chilling and freezing stresses using electrolyte leakage and survival tests. It was shown that the electrolyte leakage and survival tests were relatively good methods in assessing and identifying invasive plants tolerant to cold, identifying invasive plant cold tolerance and predicting their distribution and invasion. C. balsamita was also relatively cold tolerant.
