Nematus appalachia Smith (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae) feeding on Fagus grandifolia Ehrh. (Fagaceae).

Abstract

During surveys conducted in Massachusetts, USA, in 2016, an unidentified insect pest larva was found feeding on American beech, Fagus grandifolia. The pest was identified as Nematus appalachia based on morphological analysis of the collected specimen. This is thought to be the first record of N. appalachia as a pest of F. grandiflora in Massachusetts, USA.
